Description: The research-grade biosimilar is a human monoclonal antibody that targets Clostridium difficile toxin B. Toxin B (TcdB) is a glucosyltransferase protein that glucosylates small GTPases such as Rho, Rac, and Cdc42 in the target cells. The toxin is known to disrupt the actin cytoskeleton of the cells by causing condensation of the actin, blebbing of the membrane, which eventually leads to apoptosis and cell death. The antibody binds to the two epitopes on the N-terminal of the Toxin B CROP domain via its two Fab regions, thus partially blocking carbohydrate-binding pockets and prevents the binding of the toxin to the host cells. The original monoclonal antibody was approved by the FDA to treat adult patients who are either receiving antibacterial treatment for Clostridium difficile infection (CDI) or are at a high risk of getting re-infected with CDI
