Modulates cell–cell and cell–matrix interactions
Biomolecule/Target: Galectin-1
Alternates names: Galectin-1, Lectin galactoside-binding soluble 1, β-galactoside- binding lectin L-14-I, Lactose-binding lectin 1, S-Lac lectin 1, Galaptin, 14 kDa lectin, HPL, HBL, Putative MAPK-activating protein PM12, GBP, DKFZp686E23103
Synonyms: Galectin-1, Lectin galactoside-binding soluble 1, β-galactoside- binding lectin L-14-I, Lactose-binding lectin 1, S-Lac lectin 1, Galaptin, 14 kDa lectin, HPL, HBL, Putative MAPK-activating protein PM12, GBP, DKFZp686E23103
Background Information: Galectin-1 belongs to growing family of evolutionary conserved animal lectins. Galectins consists of β-galactoside binding lectins that contain homologous carbohydrate recognition domains (CRDs). Galectin-1 has the ability to induce apoptosis of activated T-cells and T-leukaemia cell lines. Other activities include cell differentiation and inhibition activity of CD45 protein phosphatase activity. Galectin also binds β-galactoside as well as CD45, CD3 and CD4. Recombinant Human Galectin is a 14.5 kDa protein consisting of 134 amino acid residues.
Reconstitution Instructions: Reconstitute in H₂O to a concentration of 0.1-1.0 mg/ml. This solution can then be diluted into other aqueous buffers and stored at 4°C for 1 week or –20°for future use.
