Synonyms: Furin,Recombinant Furin,Human Recombinant Furin
Background Information: Furin is a member of the proprotein convertase family. As a cellular protease, Furin processes various latent precursor proteins into their biologically active products by cleaving at the RX(K/R)R consensus motif. Some of its substrates are various growth factors, serum proteins, proteases of the blood-clotting and complement systems, matrix metalloproteinases, receptors, viral-envelope glycoproteins, and bacterial exotoxins. Furin play an essential role in embryogenesis and homeostasis and is implicated in various pathologies such as cancer, neurodegenerative diseases and anthrax. A Furin cleavage site (PRRAR) in the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein is considered a key contributor to COVID-19 pathogenesis. The purified human recombinant Furin is a truncated soluble protein (27-574 aa) that lacks the transmembrane domain.
