Description: The research-grade biosimilar is a humanized IgG1 monoclonal antibody that specifically targets Signaling Lymphocytic Activation Molecule Family member 7 (SLAMF7), a cell surface glycoprotein that is highly expressed on NK and multiple myeloma (MM) cells. The antibody has a dual mechanism of action: the direct effect involves the binding of the antibody to the Fc receptor (CD16), an extracellular portion of SLAMF7 on NK cells which ultimately triggers cell death via antibody-dependent cell cytotoxicity (ADCC); the indirect effect involves cell tagging wherein the Fab portion of the antibody binds to SLAMF7 on MM cells. These cells are recognized by NK cells that cause release of degranulated cytotoxic granules and lysis of MM cells. The original antibody was approved by the FDA as a combination treatment for patients with relapsed multiple myeloma.
