ANGPTL3 is primarily expressed in the liver and it inhibits LPL activity and endothelial lipase activity. This prevents the clearance of lipids and raises the concentration of triglycerides and LDL-C in the blood. The antibody binds with high affinity and specificity to ANGPTL3 and reverses the inhibitory action on LPL, thus promoting the clearance of LDL-C from the blood. The original drug was awarded breakthrough therapy designation by the FDA to treat patients suffering from homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (HoFH).
