Description:

Protein-arginine deiminase type-2 (PADI2) is an enzyme that belongs to the family of peptidyl arginine deiminases. PADI2 is expressed in a wide variety of tissues such as the brain, spleen, skin, uterus, and pancreas. One of the main functions of PADI2 is to catalyze the conversion of arginine residues of proteins to citrulline, in the presence of calcium ions. PADI2 is also known to catalyze the citrullination of histones and in turn regulate the process of transcription and reorganize the chromatin. Besides citrullination, PADI2 promotes efficient myelination and cognitive and motor functions. It also regulates immune responses and plays an important role in Th1-mediated autoimmune and allergic diseases. Overexpression of PADI2 is observed in several cancers such as breast, skin, gastric, prostate, lung, HCC, and papillary thyroid carcinoma. It is also implicated in the onset and progression of neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease and multiple sclerosis. Therefore, PADI2 could be a promising therapeutic target for autoimmune, inflammatory diseases, and cancer. BioVision’s PADI2 (Human) ELISA kit is based on the Sandwich principle to quantitatively measure the concentration of PADI2 in human serum, plasma, and other biological fluids. Test samples, Standards, and Biotinylated Detection antibody are added to the wells pre-coated with capture antibody and then washed with Wash Buffer. The HRP-Streptavidin is added and any unattached conjugates are washed off using Wash Buffer. The HRP enzymatic reaction is detected by the addition of TMB-substrate. Finally, the reaction is terminated with an acidic stop solution. The color developed is directly proportional to the concentration of PADI2 in the sample or standard.
